All sword skills

Press Start to pause game play in versus mode, then hold R1 and press R2 (2), L1 (2), L2 (2), release R1, and press R2. In the Japanese version of the game, pause game play during versus mode, then hold R1 and press Left (2), Right (2), L1 (2), L2 (2), L1, Right, Left. In the Japanese "Complete" version of the game, pause game play during versus mode, then press L2, R2, L2, R2, L1 (2), R1 + Square.

Battle mode

Hold L1 + R1, then press Circle + Square at the title screen. Alternately, kill the sword smith. In the Japanese version of the game, hold L1 + R2 then press Right + Square at the title screen.

Change characters

Press L1, R1 (2), L2 (3), R2 (2), R2 + Square at new game menu with the face, clothes, and sword options. Press Left or Right to choose a character. In the Japanese version of the game, highlight the name entry prompt for the main player at the character selection screen, then press L1, R1, L2, R2, L2, R1, L1, Left (4), R2 + Square. Control title screen

Press Square at the title screen after the cherry blossoms stop to have more fall. Hold L1 + L2 + R1 + R2 and press Square to have a large number of blossoms fall.

Easy money

Join the Kurou family. Get about 50 yen fighting the man when you join the "family." You will get about 50 yen more for baby-sitting the kid. Faster item pick up

To pick up items (swords or healing items such as radishes and mushrooms) during the heat of battle, you do not need to put away your sword, bend down, and pick it up. Instead, keep your sword out and kick ([R1] + [Square]) to kick the item into the air and catch it (sword) or eat it (food).

Get Versus Mode (US Version)

Play a normal game and give in to your first enemy on the bridge. After he ties you up on the railroad tracks, Kitcho comes along. Refuse to accept Kitcho's invitation to join him, then you will die and the versus mode will become available at the title screen.

Increase brightness

Hold L2 then L1 and rotate the "Left Analog-stick" several times in either direction while both buttons are held. Your character's eye will begin to flash and will illuminate your surroundings at night. This can also be done during intermission sequences. In the Japanese version of the game, hold R1 and rotate the Left Analog-stick several times in either direction.

Increase sword durability

Press Start to pause game play, then hold R1 + R2 and press Right (2), Left (2), Down, Up, Circle. The main player's currently equipped sword will increase in hardness by one. Repeat as needed to reach the maximum hardness of five. This cannot be done in versus mode. In the PAL version of the game, press Start to pause game play, then hold L1 + R2 and press Down (2), Left (2), Right, Up, Circle. In the Japanese version of the game, press Start to pause game play, then hold R1 + R2 and press Right (7), Left, Down, Up, Square. In the Japanese "Complete" version of the game, press press Start to pause game play, then hold L2 + R2 and press Left, Right, Left, Right, Up (2), Triangle.

Max Health

In the middle of a game, press Start to pause the game then HOLD L1 + l2 and press Down, Up, Down, Up, Right, Left, Circle. Cheat does not work in versus mode.

Play as Manji (Japanese version)

Get 2000 game points and save the game. Start a new game and enter "ma n ji" as a name.

Random sword

Hold L1 + R1 then press Circle, Down (2), Up (2), Down, Up, Circle at the sword inventory screen. A sound will confirm correct code entry. One random sword will be added to your inventory, with random attributes. In the PAL version of the game, press Start to pause game play, then hold L2 + R1 and press Square (2), Left (2), Square, Right, Circle. In the Japanese version of the game, press L1, Up, Down, R2, Left, Right, L1, Up, Down, then hold L1 + L2 + R1 and press Square at the sword inventory screen. Unlock all faces, clothes, versus mode characters and maps

Get 3,000 points in the story mode. The new options will not unlock at the same time. The will become available as you get points. The best way to do this is to play the game under the normal or hard difficulty setting. Get Rich Samurai rank (normal or hard), Random Slasher (hard), Beast King (normal or hard), or any of the other good ranks under those difficulties.

At the title screen, hold L1 and R2, then press Right and Square simultaneously.

VS Mode All Skills Available (Japanese Version)

During a VS Mode battle, pause the game, hold R1 and press Left, Left, Right, Right, L1, L1, L2, L2, L1, Right, Left. All the skills of the equipped sword will become available. During a 2 player battle, only the player that has entered the code will have all his skills. If you want both players to have all their skills, both players must enter the code.
