yes that is all you will need. and when i go to priate john it says that we dont talk to skum like him or something like that. also do you know any thing about the battering ram?
saw the post under this one...i went to find john after i had harnessed the dragon...so that must be the ticket...i havent triggered the battering ram yet...but will let you know when i do...thanx for your help...and let me know if i can help you...sounds like we are around the same place in the game...off to find a rope to climb 
ok i can see the rope and the cloak on the way to clearwater...but i cannot figure out how to get there...

you'll have to go in a cave then fall in a hole in the cave then into another cave that in north of where you fall i belive then up a lader then outside the cave should be the rope.

thanx i appreciate it...ive been in a cave with a hole and gone down it,...but the cave i end up in front of only has a chest in it...maybe im at the wrong cave or maybe i have to do something first?
