History

This site is THE original Xtreme Cheats website. The site has existed in various forms over a number of years. This page details some of the history.

Some documentation is available from archive.org here.

Prior to 2000

As far as we can remember the site was called something like "Red Hot PC Cheats" between 1998 and 2000. The site was then hosted on either geocities or angelfire (we don't remember). In those days it was powered by a scripting language called Perl and had all its cheats in a single text file (that was then parsed by the Perl script to show cheats for a specific game at a time).

This site is as old as Google! :-)

The year 2000

For the first part of the year 2000, the site was still based on the old Perl script, but rather quickly it was recoded using PHP using MySQL as a database. In connection with the transfer to lorn.com the site was renamed "Xtreme PC Cheats", but as we built the PHP/MySQL solution we included more systems beyond PC, and thus it became "Xtreme Cheats".

Until 2003

The next few years the site was running steadily as "Xtreme Cheats" and generating significant traffic, until in the end it was struck by a loss of traffic and lack of interest on our side (and a database crash). Thus in 2003 the site was moved to be hosted on cheats.lorn.com and the domain itself, lorn.com, was used for other purposes (none of which proved worthwhile).

After 2003

After giving up on the other purposes that we used the main domain for, we returned the site back to lorn.com, this time with a new design and a new database. Over the comming years there was several redesigns, and many content changes and improvements. We had a user system and forums that came and went, and a somewhat quiet period - but still with good traffic.

2009

In October/November 2009 we decided to re-code the entire site (with a modern PHP Framework), and as the new version is launched we expect significant effects to come about as a result of the update. We will keep you posted on how the site fares!
